Carmen Rita Fortuño, AIA, graduated from Cornell University’s School of Architecture, Art & Planning. She specializes in the design of corporate office spaces, hospitality, and educational facilities. In 2006, Carmen Rita became the first female partner of a major architecture firm in Puerto Rico. During her tenure at SCF, she has led the Interior Architecture Department as well as SCF’s Student Internship Program. She has also participated as a visiting juror in the 3rd and 4th year studios at the University of Puerto Rico’s School of Architecture, as well as given various lectures and continuing education courses sponsored by the Colegio de Arquitectos y Arquitectos Paisajistas de Puerto Rico (CAAPPR), Puerto Rico’s architect’s association. For over 10 years Carmen Rita was part of the Board of Regents of the Colegio Puertorriqueño de Niñas, in charge of its Infrastructure Committee.
Some of her most prominent projects include the master plan and interior remodeling of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, and the interior remodeling of Banco Popular corporate headquarters in Hato Rey. After Hurricane Maria, she has overseen various reconstruction and repair projects, including the design of 12 model homes for the CDBG-R3 and MIT programs, the repair of the Paquito Montaner Stadium, and the reconstruction of La Guancha Recreational and Cultural Facilities, in Ponce.
