CSILO Luquillo Outpatient Clinic

For this project, our design challenge consisted of adapting a 10,000 sq ft warehouse into an Outpatient Clinic. This property was acquired by CSILO (Concilio Integral de Salud de Loíza) with the intention of expanding the healthcare services this non-profit organization offers in the municipality of Luquillo. The lot contained only the warehouse structure, which was in a state of disrepair and disuse. This 10,000 sq ft building was a rectangular volume made of concrete and steel, empty inside except for a loading dock and a restroom. After learning about CSILO’s goals and daily operations, we undertook the task of producing a space program for seven medical departments, with their support areas and a drive-thru pharmacy. The design was initially guided by the proper functioning and layout of the spaces. During the process, the need arose to expand the footprint to 14,000 sq ft, where we incorporated a terrace volume to give character to the façade and main entrance, in addition to providing dedicated staff space and a drive-thru pharmacy area. Upon completion of the programmatic development of the structure, the design of the site was incorporated, including parking areas and landscaping. The success of the project is based on the collaboration between SCF Arquitectos, contributing their knowledge of healthcare space design, and CSILO professionals, providing their experience in daily operations and management of medical centers.
