Old Harbour Brewery

Old San Juan

Located in a double-storied space at the ground floor of the former Art Deco Citibank Building in historic Old San Juan, adjacent to the 500-year old stone wall that surrounds the city, the Old Harbor Brewery, Steak and Lobster House had to retain as an essential part of its interior concept many of the original building’s wrought iron railings, lamps and other elements. In addition, the design and the construction efforts were closely supervised by the Puerto Rico Institute of Culture to ensure the preservation of the overall period character. The design concept uniquely integrates these constraints with the technical requirements of the state-of-the-art German brewery designed by world renowned Rudolph Caspary of Chieming, Germany. Furthermore, the mechanical systems had to remain independent of the building shell and the furnishings and décor had to address the contemporary tastes of its sophisticated young professional clientele. The display kitchen culminates the principal axis of the space and the floor and wall materials emulate the finishes and patterns typical to Old San Juan residences.
