Mennonite Hospital 61-Bed Expansion

Cayey

The Mennonite General Hospital in Cayey has thoughtfully planned the development for the significant growth of its facilities over the years in order to provide for the needs of the region. The 61-bed expansion to the east side of the existing hospital building is the fourth stage in the series of facilities developed since 1998. The first was the General Hospital building (1996-1998) followed by a medical offices building (1999-2000), and a 42-bed expansion in the southwest corner of the Hospital (2007). Future developments already on the boards include an additional medical offices building and multistory parking facilities. The 61-bed expansion stage includes an interior remodeling of the existing hospital and a new four-story-high structure adjoining the original structure of the hospital.

The new facility will also include, in addition to the new beds, a new adult emergency area, pediatric emergency area and admissions; a new ob/gyn/maternity and NICU (Neo Natal Intensive Care Units) facilities; a new cardiology department and surgery expansion; additional ICU (Intensive Care Unit) beds as well as VIP rooms.

The amount of beds can be raised to 21 additional beds, if the hospital raises their CNC (Certificate of Need and Convenience) with the Department of Health.  This comprises an expansion of 121,470 sf.  Part of the existing hospital will be remodeled to include in the first floor an expansion of the kitchen area, medical records and bulk storage.  In the second floor pre and post op areas as well as radiology will be remodeled for a total of 42,312 sf of interior remodeling.  Five elevators will be included, two for visitors, two for patients and one for service.
