Los Arboles de Montehiedra II

San Juan

Is a residential development of eighteen townhouses located within the Montehiedra development master plan in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The site is a steep terrain with abundant vegetation at a fairly high elevation above sea level that allows broad views of the metropolitan area and the Atlantic Ocean. Two residential models were designed, each one of several levels and in a staggered way for the best use of the existing topography and its orientation responds to prevailing breezes and views.

The modern architectural expression and minimalist lines make a set of boxes, vertical elements, solid and translucent areas. A mixture of textures such as polished and exposed cement, glass, metal and smooth painted surfaces is also used. The design follows the principles of renewable energy emphasizing cross ventilation, natural lighting, the use of sunshades and deep eaves. Two forest areas that represent 40% of the size of the land are retained in their natural state, for the use and enjoyment of the residents.
