Luis Muñoz Marín

Foundation

Trujillo Alto

Created to preserve the legacy of the first Governor of Puerto Rico elected by the Puerto Rican people, the Foundation’s facilities were built in what was then the Trujillo Alto countryside, surrounded by the tropical vegetation and scenery around the house where he lived after serving for 16 years as governor.

The main feat was to preserve the natural habitat of the property that was so precious to him and to his wife, Inés María Mendoza. One building houses all of the Foundation’s operations, including an extensive historical archive, a small museum and an activity area for conferences, concerts, etc. As you approach the site, the building appears to be small, since it occupies a natural hollow in the terrain and so is largely hidden from view. The simplicity and axial scheme of this structure recall the local architecture of the 40s and 50s: simple and modest, evoking modernity and optimism.
