Carnegie Library

San Juan

Twenty-one years after SCF received a Premio Urbe for renovating this historic library, the 1916 building is undergoing a second retrofit and interior renovation. The main goal is to provide a more sustainable and technologically updated infrastructure while incorporating the new tendencies in library design, which include the provision of group-study collaboration spaces, private meeting rooms, various types of reading areas with flexible seating and specialized rooms such as the Children's Hall, Activities Hall, book recording cabin, as well as several types of computer stations arranged in benching modules. Amenities include a Coffee Shop and exterior terraces, with the idea of transforming the library into an active and dynamic community building where various types of activities can occur simultaneously.
